The Basics on Dental Filling

10th October 2024

A dental filling is a common procedure for dentists to repair a tooth’s minimal fractures and surface damages caused by tooth decay.

The dental filling also allows the dentist to restore a tooth’s function and retain the overall structure of a tooth, bringing it back to its original shape.

Not only does this procedure do wonders for your smile, but it will also prevent the risks of bacteria build-up and other dental problems.

Typically, during a filling procedure, the dentist will give the surrounding areas of your tooth local anaesthesia before proceeding to remove the decay surrounding the affected tooth with a dental handpiece or laser.

Finally, when all is clean, the area is filled with a special material, usually made of precious metal alloys, such as silver and gold, amalgam, porcelain, or composite resin.
